LGBTQI + : Le Bénin accepte de poursuivre les auteurs d'actes de violence contre cette communauté
This is information from the daily newspaper "Le Matinal." The Beninese government has reportedly accepted two of the thirteen recommendations relating to sexual orientation and gender identity during the last Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in 2023. The first recommendation concerns combating the stigmatization of people living with HIV, including gays, lesbians, transgender people, and others. The second recommendation concerns the obligation to investigate and prosecute perpetrators of acts of violence against members of this community.
The Beninese government tacitly recognizes the presence of this LGBTQI+ movement
According to the daily newspaper "Le Matinal," the Benin Synergy Network, a platform for the defense of LGBTQI+ rights in Benin, played a major role in the adoption of these two directives. It submitted a report to the UPR in Geneva to denounce violations of the rights of sexual and gender minorities in Benin.
By accepting these two recommendations, the Beninese government is tacitly acknowledging the presence of this LGBTQI+ movement. This appears to send a bad signal. Beninese culture does not accommodate these imported practices. In some African countries, homosexuality is punishable by prison sentences.
There aren't even any associations campaigning for their rights. We have every right to be concerned about Benin. What will be the next step after these two recommendations are accepted?

On ne peut que prévoir la réprobation et la fureur du Tout-puissant contre le Bénin et ses dirigeants.
C'est normal que le Benin décide de protéger cette minorité. A quand le Sénégal?
