Mali : Quand les terroristes défient les FAMA sur les grands axes routiers du pays
In Mali, armed terrorist groups invaded several of the country's highways last week. This raid was harrowing for both residents and businesses. Tanker trucks carrying diesel and gasoline, under military escort, as well as public transport vehicles, were attacked on the Kayes-Sandaré-Sandaré-Diéma and Kayes-Bamako sections.
Despite the response of the Malian armed forces (FAMA) who escort the fuel convoys, the losses in equipment are significant.
"It's very complex, it's an asymmetric war."
These terrorist attacks have been claimed by the al-Qaeda-affiliated Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM). In an interview with Malian national television on September 16, General Makan Alassane Diarra, deputy chief of operations for the FAMA, stated that his men are facing invisible enemies who emerge from the shadows to strike.
"It's not easy to act against an enemy that acts invisibly and unpredictably. It's very complex. It's an asymmetric war. The enemy blends into the population, in open countryside and in built-up areas," the senior officer said.
However, he wanted to reassure the population and economic operators about the efforts currently being made by the FAMA to secure these major supply routes.
