Two hundred (200) Guinean migrants, including several unsuccessful candidates for illegal immigration to Europe, returned to Conakry this Tuesday, October 21, 2025. These compatriots, stranded for several months in Mauritania, were living in precarious conditions and great distress.

They were repatriated on a charter flight in the morning, thanks to a joint operation between the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Guinean authorities. Among the repatriates are 90 children and 53 women, according to sources close to the case.

This return is part of the voluntary return program set up by the IOM, which has promised to ensure the socio-economic reintegration of migrants once they return to Guinea.

This is the fourth charter flight from Mauritania since the initiative was launched. The first cohort, consisting of 180 migrants, was repatriated several weeks ago, followed by two other convoys, each carrying around 200 Guineans.

However, the situation remains worrying. According to information gathered from our sources based in Mauritania, nearly 2,000 other Guineans are still awaiting repatriation. Around 350 are currently in Nouadhibou, 300 in Rosso, while others are scattered across the towns of Zouérat, Néma, and Atar.

Many of these migrants claim to have exhausted their resources and are making an urgent appeal to the Guinean government and humanitarian organizations to come to their aid.

"We are living in very difficult conditions. Some are sleeping outside, others are getting sick. We are asking to be repatriated like our brothers who have already returned," said a migrant contacted from Nouadhibou.

Faced with this reality, the Guinean authorities reiterate their call to young people to avoid the perilous paths of irregular migration and prioritize local integration.
