Maroc : les secours mobilisés après la vague de froid
Morocco has been experiencing an intense cold wave in recent days, accompanied by heavy snowfall at altitude and significant rainfall, with up to 80 centimeters of snow in the High Atlas and 50 millimeters of rain in the center and north of the country.
These conditions complicate the daily lives of residents and disrupt traffic on many roads.
The authorities have deployed large-scale emergency measures. The mobilization covers 28 provinces, more than 2,000 localities and villages, and aims to support approximately 73,000 households affected by the cold.
Among the protected populations are 665 homeless people, 2,790 pregnant women, and 18,722 elderly people deemed vulnerable. To guarantee access and safety, 1,024 snow removal vehicles have been pre-positioned along the most exposed roads.
Authorities have increased their vigilance across the Kingdom following the tragedy that occurred the previous day in Safi, on the Atlantic coast, where flash floods claimed 37 lives. The national prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to determine any potential liability, while residents are denouncing delays in the rescue efforts to pump out the water.
Since this tragic event, the authorities are now focused on anticipating and protecting populations from the risks associated with extreme weather conditions.
