Niger-Algérie : Tebboune pressé de lancer les travaux du Gazoduc Transsaharien
The recent working visit of Nigerien President Abdourahmane Tiani to Algeria is a clear sign of warming relations between the two countries. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for his part, welcomed the "end" of this "abnormal period of chill" between Niamey and Algiers.
"Sonatrash will take charge and begin installing the pipeline crossing the Niger River."
To mark the resumption of bilateral cooperation, the leader announced the launch of work on the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline section, scheduled for March 2026.
“We have agreed to launch the project to build the section of the trans-Saharan gas pipeline crossing Niger, a brotherly country, just after the month of Ramadan (which should end around March 19),” said President Tebboune.
"Sonatrash will take charge and begin the installation of the pipeline crossing the Niger," he said.
As a reminder, the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TGSP) project, over 4,000 kilometers long, is designed to transport gas extracted in Nigeria to Algeria via Niger. This gas, which is also intended to supply the Sahel region, can be exported to the European Union via the Transmed pipeline, which connects Algeria to Italy via Tunisia.
