Niger : L’armée annonce la mort d’Ibrahim Bakoura, chef de Boko Haram dans le lac Tchad
The Nigerien army confirmed the neutralization of Ibrahim Bakoura, alias Abou Oumaima, a Boko Haram figure, in an airstrike carried out on August 15, 2025, in the Lake Chad region. Around thirty high-ranking fighters were also killed.
Abubakar Shekau's successor since 2021, Bakoura, in his forties, was considered a feared strategist responsible for numerous attacks in the region. His death is a major setback for the terrorist organization, although authorities are calling for vigilance against the risk of reprisals.
