Niger : Mise en place d’un comité d’experts pour défendre l’État face à Orano devant des instances internationales

On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in Niamey, the Nigerien government established a committee of experts tasked with documenting the complaints and disputes between the State of Niger and the Orano group. This initiative, announced by the Minister of Justice, is part of the procedures initiated following the nationalization of mineral resources.

According to the minister, Orano has initiated several actions against Niger before international bodies, claiming mining rights, while the authorities denounce environmental, health and economic damage linked to uranium mining.

The committee's mission will be to collect and analyze data on social, environmental, health and fiscal impacts, to assess the damages suffered and to develop legal arguments to defend Niger before national and international courts.

The Nigerien authorities thus intend to strengthen their position in this dispute and obtain redress, affirming their will to defend national sovereignty and the interests of the people.
