Nigeria : le Guinness des records valide le plus grand Jollof Rice au monde
The Guinness World Records on Monday recognized the achievement of Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who on Friday cooked "the world's largest Nigerian-style jollof rice" in Lagos, Nigeria's cultural capital.
The Guinness Book of Records announced the Nigerian chef's victory on Monday on its X account, specifying that this XXL version of this emblematic Nigerian dish made of rice, tomato and onions ultimately weighed 8.7 tons.
The chef began preparing the dish on Friday in a giant six-meter-wide pot specially built for the occasion, using four tons of basmati rice, 600 kilos of onions and 750 kilos of oil, among other ingredients.
Several thousand people gathered to encourage him and benefit from the final distribution, which ended during the night after several hours of cooking.
"We did it again," the 28-year-old chef reacted on her X account.
In 2023, Hilda Baci had already achieved a record recognized by the famous Guinness Book of Records, that of the longest solo cooking session, after spending 93 hours and 11 minutes standing up non-stop preparing local dishes. She has since been dethroned from this record.
Jollof rice has its roots in the ancient Wolof Empire, also known as the Jolof Empire, which stretched from present-day Senegal to Mauritania and Gambia.
This specialty today gives rise to some rivalries, particularly between Nigeria and Ghana, each claiming the "best recipe".
