Nigeria : Un ancien ministre de la Justice et ex-procureur général jeté en prison avec son fils
Tough times for former Attorney General and former Minister of Justice of Nigeria, Abubakar Malami. The Federal High Court in Abuja ordered his pretrial detention at the Kuje Correctional Centre on Tuesday.
An arrest warrant was also issued for his co-defendants, namely his son Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami and Bashir Asabe. The three defendants face 16 counts of money laundering.
"Use of companies and bank accounts to launder funds"
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) believes they conspired on several occasions to conceal, retain and disguise the proceeds of illegal activities amounting to several billion naira.
According to the indictment, the alleged offences span several years and include the use of companies and bank accounts to launder money, the holding of cash as collateral for loans and the acquisition of high-value real estate in Abuja, Kano and other locations in the country.
According to the EFCC, some of these offences were committed while Malami was federal attorney general.
