The police command in Bauchi State, Nigeria, rescued a man who had been illegally held captive and chained for 17 years by his biological father.
Command spokesman SP Nafiu Habib, who revealed this in a statement on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, said a good Samaritan reported that the victim, Muhammad Lawan, had been held captive by his father for nearly a decade without care.
