Uranium nigérien bloqué à Niamey : Le journaliste Seidik Abba parle de pression de la France sur ce pays côtier
According to multiple sources, a significant quantity of Nigerien uranium is expected to be exported through a port in a West African country. Nigerien journalist Seidik Abba confirmed this information during a recent appearance on the online media outlet "Décrypter l'Afrique" (Deciphering Africa).
According to the former Jeune Afrique employee, Niger "had obtained the coastal country's agreement to export its uranium." This is why it transported the ore from Arlit to Niamey. But in the meantime, "France exerted pressure on this sovereign country, which agreed to renege on its commitment," asserts Seidik Abba.
"Uranium can be transported by channels other than sea."
This situation has disrupted Niger's agenda. This, according to the journalist, explains the current status quo.
He notes, however, that Niger does not necessarily need to transport its uranium by sea.
“Uranium can be transported through channels other than the sea. It doesn’t necessarily have to be to the coast. And the coast can be much further away. There is currently an agreement between Niger and Algeria. Niger can (transit its) uranium through Algeria. The idea that Niger is trapped and has no choice but to negotiate with Orano doesn’t seem relevant to me,” said Seidik Abba.
It should be noted that the coastal country that previously gave its approval to Niger could well be Togo. Indeed, according to several sources, the Nigerien uranium is expected to be exported via the port of Lomé.
