Union panafricaine des journalistes pour la coopération Sud-Sud : La Sénégalaise Ndèye Magatte Kébé nommée responsable des programmes et projets

Officially launched on September 1, 2025, the Pan-African Union of Journalists for South-South Cooperation (UPJ-SUD), headquartered in the Moroccan capital Rabat, has installed its executive board. Among the members of this high-level governing body is Senegalese journalist Ndèye Magatte Kébé, designated head of programs and projects. An organization of journalists committed to promoting South-South cooperation, the UPJ-SUD's mission is to defend press freedom, promote South-South cooperation, and foster credible, responsible information that serves development.

Ms. Kébé's appointment reflects recognition of Senegalese expertise and dynamism in the media sector, as well as the importance of the role of women in the renewal of the African journalistic landscape. This appointment demonstrates Senegal's strategic contribution to the implementation of UPJ-SUD's initiatives, particularly in training, innovation, and the development of collaborative projects.

Founder of the information site LesAfricaines, dedicated to the promotion of African women (launched in October 2018), and of the online media HydroDiplomacy, created in 2022 and specializing in diplomacy and water governance in Africa, Ndèye Magatte Kébé is an active member of several national and international associations, including: the International Union of the Francophone Press (based in Paris); “Acting Together”, a network of women journalists for the rule of law and human rights, an initiative of the South Programme V supported by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe; and the Network of African Journalists specializing in Sustainable Development and Climate Change (based in Geneva). In September 2025, she joined Women in International Security (WIIS), a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC (United States), bringing together more than 15,000 members from 50 countries and working to promote gender equality in the areas of peace and security.

Ndèye Magatte Kébé holds a master's degree in journalism and communication from the Higher Institute of Entrepreneurship and Management (ISEG) in Dakar, after an initial course in the Geography Department of Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD). Ndèye Magatte Kébé has over fifteen years of experience. The Senegalese journalist began her career as a reporter for several Senegalese media outlets, before becoming a correspondent for international agencies. Building on this experience, she gradually shifted her career toward strategic and institutional communication. Since 2022, she has held the position of communications manager for the Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network (GRAIN) project within the Initiative Prospective Agricole et Rurale (IPAR), a Senegalese think tank based in Dakar. She also serves as assistant to the board of directors within the same organization. Her work involves designing and implementing communication strategies, developing the visibility of research initiatives and results, and coordinating actions related to gender equality and responsible artificial intelligence.

Her role also includes managing press relations, writing content, and strategic monitoring, among other things. The Union's executive board, chaired by Ivorian Adama Bakayoko and composed of representatives from several African countries (Morocco, Benin, Guinea, Mali, Ivory Coast, and Senegal), illustrates the desire to build a diverse and inclusive organization capable of responding to the common challenges of the South. Moreover, in the coming months, UPJ-SUD will launch capacity-building programs, awards for journalistic excellence, and pan-African forums promoting intercultural dialogue and cooperation. The active commitment of Senegal, through its representative, is a major asset for the success of these initiatives.
