Réparation pour les victimes du régime de Yahya Jammeh : Adama Barrow sort le chéquier
Good news for victims of the Yahya Jammeh regime. The Gambian government has released 30 million Dalasis (235,187,460 CFA francs) to redress the wrongs done to them. According to the Gambian Minister of Justice, who presented the information to parliament last Wednesday, the funds will be administered by the newly established Victims Redress Commission (VRC).
20 million Dalasis will be allocated for direct reparations to victims
Of the D30 million, D20 million will be allocated to direct reparations for victims. The remainder will support the Commission's operational needs.
Payments of these allowances have not yet started. The VRC must first finalize its internal policies, strategies, and eligibility criteria to ensure a fair and transparent process, Minister Dawda Jallow said.
For him, the government is aware that financial compensation cannot undo the suffering endured, but it is an important step towards recognition, justice and restoration.
