Romuald Wadagni , dauphin de Patrice Talon : La réaction de l’ex-président béninois Nicéphore Soglo

It's an open secret. Current Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni has been nominated as the movement's candidate for the April 2026 presidential election in Benin. In plain terms, this chartered accountant is President Patrice Talon's heir apparent, the man he hopes will succeed him as leader of the country.

This choice has been widely discussed in newspapers and on social media. Former Beninese President Nicéphore Soglo has also given his opinion on what appears to be a "co-optation."

"He seemed the most qualified to continue Talon's work."

Indeed, for the former World Bank official, Wadagni has the right profile to continue Patrice Talon's work.

"I congratulate him. This will allow us to continue the work that Talon began. (Wadagni) found the resources that allowed us to modernize the country. Apart from Bio Tchané, he seemed the most qualified to continue Talon's work," Mr. Soglo told the newspaper "L'Evènement Précis."

The former president sees this appointment as a bonus for "youth", as the minister is only 49 years old.
