In 2024, SICA-UEMOA recorded a significant growth in its interbank transactions, with a volume up 6.07% and an overall value increasing by 3.49%. This trend highlights increased activity in the region, even if the average transaction amounts remain moderate, revealing a market in full consolidation but still cautious.
Despite the rise of electronic platforms, checks continue to dominate in value, representing more than 70% of transactions. Wire transfers and other modern instruments remain in the minority, highlighting the persistence of traditional practices within the regional financial system.
This situation illustrates a tension between the vitality and growth of the interbank market and the partial adoption of financial innovations. For the region's stakeholders, this is a clear signal that the integration and modernization of the system still require efforts in financial education and incentivizing the use of more secure and efficient instruments.
