Tensions avec le Soudan : Le Tchad ferme sa frontière orientale jusqu’à nouvel ordre
The Chadian government announced on February 23, 2026, the immediate closure of its border with Sudan until further notice. N'Djamena cites repeated violations of its territory linked to the ongoing conflict in its neighboring country.
According to the authorities, this measure aims to prevent the war from spilling over into Chadian territory, to protect the population, and to preserve the country's territorial integrity. All border crossings are closed, except in exceptional circumstances for humanitarian reasons.
This decision comes amid rising tensions, marked in particular by a drone attack in late December that killed two Chadian soldiers, as well as accusations rejected by N'Djamena before the International Criminal Court.
Chad also claims to have hosted more than 1.5 million Sudanese refugees since the start of the conflict.
