Tentative de coup d’Etat au Bénin : Cet activiste qui a vite déchanté
In Benin, the military attempted to seize power yesterday, Sunday 07, 2025. In a message broadcast on national television, they said they were removing Patrice Talon from his position as President of the Republic and announced the installation of a Military Committee for Refoundation at the head of the country.
Kemi Seba, a well-known activist opposed to Patrice Talon's regime, posted a video in which he was literally exultant. But his joy was short-lived. Loyalist forces managed to regain control of the situation, routing the mutineers.
Several of them have been arrested. Their leader, Lieutenant-Colonel Pascal Tigri, is still at large. The failure of this coup proves that a significant portion of the army remains loyal to President Patrice Talon. Those who, like Kemi Seba, wanted to overturn the constitutional order in Benin were quickly disillusioned.
