L'Union africaine condamne l’assassinat de Saïf al-Islam Kadhafi en Libye
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, expressed his deep concern following the assassination of Libyan politician Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, which occurred on February 3, 2026 in Zintan.
In a statement, he strongly condemned this act of violence, believing it undermines ongoing efforts for a credible and inclusive political transition in Libya. He offered his condolences to the family of the deceased and to those affected, while reiterating the importance of the peaceful resolution of disputes.
Mahmoud Ali Youssouf called on the Libyan authorities to uphold the rule of law, conduct a thorough investigation, and bring those responsible to justice. He also urged political actors to exercise restraint and reaffirmed the African Union's commitment to supporting Libya towards a lasting and consensual peace.
