The United Forces of the Southern African Region have a new commander

In Mali, the President of the Transition, Army General Assimi Goita, appointed Brigadier General Makan Alassane Diarra, by decree, to head the Unified Force of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). The high-ranking officer replaces his compatriot, General Daouda Traoré, who is now Chief of Staff of the National Guard.

Prior to his appointment, General Makan Alassane Diarra served as Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of operations at the General Staff of the Armed Forces. He is expected to soon join the command of this unified AES Force in Niamey.
