Thiaroye : Tancé par ses parents pour consommation d'alcool, un transitaire tente de se suicider au centre Jacques Chirac
A 30-year-old man attempted suicide Saturday afternoon at the Jacques Chirac Center in Thiaroye after being reprimanded by his parents for drinking alcohol. The quick intervention of center staff prevented a tragedy, according to Seneweb sources.
The Thiaroye district police station was alerted on Saturday, January 31, 2026, around 4 p.m., to a suicide attempt underway at the Jacques Chirac center in Thiaroye.
At the scene, police discovered Mr. Sylla, aged 30, a freight forwarder by profession and residing in Djiddah Thiaroye Kao, and a rope tied to a tree.
According to B. Ndiaye, head of the carpentry workshop at the Jacques Chirac center, he and his colleagues saw Mr. Sylla tying a rope to a tree after smoking several cigarettes. The man in his thirties then began to say prayers, which alerted them.
When Mr. Sylla began to wrap the rope around his neck, witnesses intervened promptly to restrain him, thus preventing the worst.
The motives for the desperate act
When questioned by police about the reasons for his suicide attempt, Mr. Sylla stated that he had been reprimanded by his parents after consuming a large amount of alcohol the previous day.
The next morning, upon waking, he felt deeply humiliated by his parents' reproaches. This led him to want to end his life.
Prosecutor Saliou Dicko, head of the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office, has been informed of this suicide attempt and an investigation is underway.
