Togo : le visa supprimé pour tous les ressortissants africains
Togo is opening its borders further to Africans. The country has announced the elimination of entry visas for all nationals of African states holding a valid national passport, for stays of up to 30 days.
The measure came into effect on Monday, May 18, 2026. It applies to African travelers arriving by land, air, or sea. However, entry into Togolese territory remains subject to a mandatory prior formality.
A stay without a visa, but with registration
African nationals will no longer need to apply for a visa to enter Togo for stays of up to 30 days. However, they will need to submit a travel declaration at least 24 hours before their arrival.
This declaration is made on the official platform voyage.gouv.tg. Once the registration is completed, the traveler receives a travel slip to present at the borders.
What changes for African travelers
For travelers, this decision can simplify travel to Lomé and other Togolese cities. It reduces an often costly and discouraging administrative barrier, especially for short stays, business trips, cultural events, or family visits.
For African entrepreneurs and investors, the impact could also be significant. Togo is seeking to strengthen its role as a regional hub, particularly in services, logistics, culture, and economic exchange.
A signal for free movement in Africa
This reform is part of a broader trend towards free movement across the continent. Several African countries have already eased their entry requirements for African nationals, in line with regional integration and the African Continental Free Trade Area.
For Lomé, the stakes are also diplomatic. By abolishing visas for Africans, the country is sending a signal of openness and wants to show that African unity can translate into concrete measures for its citizens.
An opening under control
The elimination of visa requirements does not mean uncontrolled entry. Travelers remain subject to Togo's immigration, security, and public health regulations. Online registration allows authorities to have information before travelers arrive.
For Africans wishing to travel to Togo, the rule is therefore simple: no more visa for a stay of up to 30 days, but a mandatory declaration at least 24 hours before departure.
This decision could give new impetus to intra-African trade and enhance Togo's attractiveness to travelers, entrepreneurs and cultural players on the continent.
