Trafic de drogue au Nigeria: neuf arrestations dont trois Mexicains, un laboratoire industriel démantelé
Nigeria's anti-drug agency announced Wednesday that it had dismantled the largest industrial-scale methamphetamine laboratory ever discovered in the country, and arrested nine suspects, including three Mexican nationals.
Nigeria has long been considered a hub for the production and trafficking of illicit drugs destined for Europe and other African countries.
The raid on an isolated farm revealed a "clandestine, industrial-scale laboratory, the largest ever discovered in Nigeria, hidden in a remote forest in Ogun State" (southwest), the National Drug Law Enforcement Administration (NDLEA) said in a statement.
The operation, which also included searches of two residential properties in an upscale area of Lagos (southwest), the economic capital, resulted in the recovery of chemicals worth $362,922,000 (€312,287,535), including methamphetamine, according to the NDLEA.
"We are fully aware of the evolving tactics of these cartels, including the worrying trend of hiring specialists from South American cartels to set up production facilities in our rural communities," said Buba Marwa, head of the NDLEA, in a statement.
