Assemblée législative de transition au Burkina : Les 12 sièges attribués aux partis politiques bientôt supprimés
In Burkina Faso, the Council of Ministers on Thursday, February 19, 2026, examined a draft law amending the revised Transition Charter of May 25, 2024. This reform aims to establish normative and institutional coherence after the dissolution of political parties and formations.
The bill calls for the removal of seats held by political parties in the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT).
Reallocation of these seats to other components of the company
"The dissolution of political parties and formations entails the removal of the 'parties and movements' component in Article 15 of the charter, which grants this component 12 seats within the legislative body. The reallocation of these seats to the other components makes it possible to maintain the size of the Transitional Legislative Assembly and guarantee its optimal functioning," states the minutes of the Council of Ministers.
Captain Ibrahim Traoré and the government ministers have agreed to the transmission of the said bill to the ALT.
It is worth recalling that the Burkinabe government adopted a decree at the end of January 2026 dissolving the country's political parties and formations. It believed that the proliferation of these political factions had contributed to dividing citizens and weakening the social fabric.
