Conseil de sécurité de l’ONU : La CEDEAO félicite le Liberia pour son élection
The Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) congratulated the Republic of Liberia on its entry into the Security Council as part of the African Group (A3), following a vote held at the United Nations General Assembly.
The country was elected with 181 votes. For the ECOWAS Commission, this election constitutes "an eloquent testimony of the international community's confidence in Liberia's path to resilience."
Furthermore, ECOWAS “encourages Liberia to advocate for the operationalization and full implementation of Security Council Resolution 2719.” This is in addition to other priorities, including “the continued operationalization of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the issue of reparations, and Security Council reform.”
Liberia officially began its term in January 2026, marking its return to the Security Council for the first time since 1961, when it held a seat for a negotiated one-year term.
