Yeumbeul : Un chef d'entreprise arrêté avec 43 billets noirs, une imprimante et deux ordinateurs saisis
The case stems from an anonymous tip about a major counterfeit money trafficking network operating between Yeumbeul and Thiaroye Azur. According to the source, Mouhamadou Moctar Badiane, 33, a business owner residing in Thiaroye Azur, allegedly contacted an individual to launder counterfeit banknotes, arranging a meeting in Mbed Fass.
A discreet surveillance operation was immediately set up by officers from the Yeumbeul-Comico police station, under the command of Commissioner Ousmane Diop. After several hours of waiting, the suspect was spotted riding on a Jakarta-type motorcycle. Sensing a police presence, he changed the meeting place to the EDK roundabout. The officers followed him to the new location, where they saw him get off the motorcycle, an envelope in his hand, and walk towards an unidentified individual.
He was then arrested. The envelope in his possession contained twenty counterfeit bills, including 10,000 FCFA and 100-dollar notes. Taken to his home for a search, investigators seized twenty-three more bills, including three genuine counterfeit 10,000 FCFA notes, bringing the total to 43. Also discovered in his room were a printer suspected of having been used to produce counterfeit bills, two hard drives, two laptops, a safe, and three cell phones, according to Seneweb sources.
When questioned, Mouhamadou Moctar Badiane admitted the facts and named two individuals, a certain Ibrahima and a man named Alex, as the owners of the tickets, presenting himself as a mere intermediary.
Placed in police custody for attempted counterfeiting and falsification of currency, the case has been brought to the attention of prosecutor Saliou Dicko. The investigation is ongoing.
