Agropole Sud : Le ministre Serigne Guèye Diop prône un changement de paradigme pour une ouverture à tous les produits de la Casamance
The Minister of Industry and Trade is calling for a paradigm shift in the South Agropole, with a broad opening to all raw materials to be developed and exploited in this economic hub of Casamance.
Indeed, "the agropole was only planned for cashew nuts, corn, and mangoes. But Casamance is much richer; it has all the products, from fish to agriculture, including horticulture. Therefore, the agropole will be open to all the products that exist in Casamance and in the sub-region," the minister indicated after a meeting with the program's managers.
In this wake, Serigne Guèye Diop recommended the revision of departmental platforms. He announced the transition of the logistics platforms planned in Oussouye, Bignona, Sédhiou and Kolda into industrial and logistics zones, since it makes no sense to take raw materials from these departments and process them in Adéane, the location of the South agropole. "Sédhiou, Kolda, Oussouye and Bignona will have industrial zones capable of also having factories and creating jobs," assures the minister, who asked the various mayors to deliberate on making 50 to 100 hectares available to the agropole.
This same request was made to the mayor of Adéane to expand the surface area of the South agropole: "We are not going to invest 53 billion for the agropole and stop at 45 ha. We must do everything to increase the surface area."
Furthermore, the minister announced that the government will "create at least 30,000 direct jobs in this agropole and perhaps 20,000 more indirect jobs in other agropoles" for young people, before welcoming the progress of work in this space. He requested delivery by the end of December at the latest, to organize the inauguration in January 2026.
