Campagne agricole 2025-2026 : Pluies contrastées, inondations localisées et premières récoltes à Kédougou
The Kédougou region is experiencing a 2025-2026 agricultural campaign marked by contrasting rainfall conditions, localized flooding and the appearance of the first harvests. This is what emerges from the weekly report No. 18 monitoring the agricultural campaign, covering the period from September 18 to 24, 2025.
Overall rainfall deficit
Compared to last year, rainfall remains lower in several localities, notably in Kédougou-Météo, Fongolimbi and Dakatély where a deficit of -118.8 mm was recorded. Of the fifteen observation posts installed in the region, nine show a deficit compared to the 1991-2020 seasonal norm.
However, some stations, including Saraya, Salémata, Missirah Sirimana, Bemou and Médina Baffé, show a surplus, with a record of 306.1 mm recorded at Saraya.
Seasonal forecasts, however, remain reassuring, announcing a normal to excess rainfall situation, a determining factor for the success of the campaign.
Floods in Saraya Department
Recent heavy rains have caused flooding in several villages in the Saraya department, including Saroudja, Guémédji, Wassangara, Satadougou, and Missirah Dantila. Approximately 50 hectares of crops, mainly corn, rice, and peanuts, have already been affected. Authorities are currently conducting a census of those affected and assessing the affected areas.
First harvests and phytosanitary vigilance
In terms of agriculture, four sowing waves have been recorded. The majority of crops are between the generative and maturity stages, while the first harvests of fonio and corn are already observed.
However, the region is facing attacks from fall armyworms. But thanks to the intervention of the Missirah Plant Protection Unit (UPV), 95 hectares have already been treated with 60 liters of phytosanitary products (Sultan 480 EC). Experts are nevertheless calling for increased vigilance, awareness, and control to prevent the spread of this pest.
A campaign under surveillance
With an early wintering season and encouraging rainfall prospects, the 2025-2026 growing season looks promising. But challenges related to flooding and pest attacks underscore the need for increased monitoring and sustained support for the region's producers.
