Commerce d’arachide : Campagne 2025 retardée à Linguère, l'arachide vendue à bas prix sur le marché noir
The peanut marketing campaign, launched over a week ago, is struggling to get off the ground in Linguère, where official collection points remain closed. Faced with this delay, producers in the Djoloff region are selling their harvests en masse on the black market at very low prices.
Currently, peanuts are selling for between 200 and 225 CFA francs per kilogram in the parallel market. This price is significantly lower than the official floor price set by the Senegalese government at 305 CFA francs per kilogram.
In the large agricultural areas of Djoloff such as Gassane, Thiél and Barkedji, farmers are forced to sell their harvests at bargain prices in weekly markets or in Touba.
Despite a minimum price deemed acceptable by producers, agricultural operators have not yet been able to begin collection operations at the various collection points set up throughout the department. Mor Sarr, an agricultural operator, points to the current economic climate and the lack of funding.
"If the state wants the peanut marketing campaign to succeed, it must grant us funding that will allow us to buy peanuts at the floor price of 305 francs per kilo," he argued.
If this situation of fire sales and delays persists, the consequences for the future of the sector could be serious. Mor Ndiaye of the ANDANDO GIE, a group of farmers, warns of the risk of problems for seed stocks. He states that "Seed stocks are threatened and the peanut sector is jeopardized."
The marketing campaign is unlikely to be very successful this year, unlike previous campaigns.
