Pomme de terre : La mévente inquiète les producteurs maraichers de Notto-Gouye-Diama
Vegetable farmers in Notto-Gouye-Diama, in the Niayes region (Tivaouane department), have voiced their concerns about the difficulties hindering the smooth progress of the potato marketing campaign. They denounce the lack of markets for their produce, which is stored in large quantities in the fields. These farmers are also calling on the government to address the current situation.
After welcoming the government's support in the form of seed and input subsidies, these market gardeners are calling on the state to provide better support in selling their produce, which has been harvested in both quantity and quality since the end of January. Yancoba Ndiaye, president of the market gardeners in the Niayes region, specifically in Notto-Gouye-Diama, confirmed that potatoes are still in the fields. "Here in Notto-Gouye-Diama, potatoes have been harvested in both quantity and quality since January 31st," he stated.
These vegetable producers took the opportunity to call on the Minister of Trade, as well as members of the ARM (Association of Rural Markets), to fulfill their promises to build storage facilities that could be useful to them in the event of unsold produce, as is currently the case. "We are truly worried because we are unable to sell our products. We are requesting government assistance with marketing," stated Yancoba Ndiaye.
