Campagne de commercialisation problématique : Ousmane Sonko annonce un changement
This year, there have been numerous complaints regarding the peanut marketing campaign. Farmers are struggling to sell their produce, particularly at the minimum price set by the government. On Thursday, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, who was in Passi, addressed the issue and announced a new agricultural policy.
“Marketing may be slow. But don’t forget that production was exceptional this year. We’re at 900,000 tons of peanuts compared to 600,000 last year. So marketing can’t be completed in a day. But all those who want to sell their peanut stock will be able to sell, God willing. But by next year, the agricultural season will be different because we will be implementing a new agricultural policy,” he explained to Passi this Thursday.
He even mentions having established a committee within the Prime Minister's office for this new agricultural policy. Because, he says, when a policy hasn't worked so far, you have to have the courage to try something else. The head of government declares that the state is investing hundreds of billions in agriculture. "Despite everything, the farmer isn't happy, the industrialist isn't happy, the exporter isn't happy, and the state isn't happy either. This means the system isn't working," he says.
The option the government seems to be taking is to redirect its subsidies elsewhere, specifically by implementing a genuine mechanization and irrigation policy. "Should we continue to subsidize or use this money to drill wells everywhere so that farmers can produce twelve months a year instead of three?" he asked the audience.
