Nouveau gouvernement : à quel camp se vouer ?
With each cabinet reshuffle, Senegal replays the same scene. Some look for winners, others count the losers. And for several days, the country transforms into an open-air political interpretation room.
Once again, interpretations abound. For some, it's Diomaye's government. For others, it's still Sonko's. The more cautious see it as a balance. The more impassioned already see it as a victory for their side over the other.
As is often the case in Senegal, we spend more time commenting on supposed power dynamics than looking at the actual missions entrusted to the ministers.
The truth is that the average citizen is asking a much simpler question: will this government speed things up or continue to explain why they take so long?
Because, while analysts dissect the internal balances, external concerns haven't changed. The family man is still trying to figure out how to get through the month without turning every expense into a problem.
The new government inherits both an advantage and a risk. The advantage is that the Senegalese people still want to believe. The risk is that they are becoming increasingly impatient. During the opposition, time was on Pastef's side. Every difficulty strengthened its message. Once in power, time has changed. Every month that passes without visible results becomes an argument for the disillusioned.
Perhaps that's why the debate over names is less important than it seems. The real issue isn't which camp a minister belongs to. The real issue is whether the government now operates according to political principles or according to results. Because ultimately, the Senegalese people aren't asking for a Diomaye government or a Sonko government.
They are demanding a government that works.
And that's probably the only side that still matters. Let's get to work.
