Overdose politique, économie en soins intensifs
The political machine never stops! Electoral code, political parties, candidacy, appointment, position, political dialogue, voter registration list, political opportunism, backroom deals… In Senegal, these words are endlessly repeated, like a scratched mbalax tune. It's as if the country has become a waiting room… for perpetual elections.
It is 2026. While we are told of a growth of 2.5%, the rest of sub-Saharan Africa is cruising at over 4%.
But in our country, the urgent issue is neither employment, nor training, nor purchasing power. No. The urgent issue is knowing who will be a candidate, who will be rejected, and above all who will inherit the sacred "position" — this republican Holy Grail that transforms every citizen into a drawing-room strategist.
Political dialogue? A series with endless seasons: many episodes, few plots, and always the same actors. They debate the electoral register with the gravity of a war council, while the average shopper's shopping basket is campaigning... for its survival.
By constantly living according to the rhythm of elections, we end up confusing governing with winning. But a country doesn't develop through ballots, but through decisions. 2029 seems so far away, yet so close.
In Senegal, while the economy can wait: politics, on the other hand, is still campaigning… even against reality.
