Le conflit russo-ukrainien s'exporte sur le terrain du renseignement en Afrique de l'Ouest

A former Ukrainian officer operating anonymously on social media is accused of launching a campaign to gather sensitive information in several African countries, including Guinea, the Central African Republic, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Chad. Presenting himself as the founder of the organization "Founder of the Frontelligence Insight," he allegedly approached local citizens, promising them payment in exchange for information about the presence and activities of Russian specialists in their countries.

Two African citizens, one from Mali and the other from Guinea, have decided to reveal the content of their conversations with this individual. According to their accounts, the discussions quickly veered off the initial topic and turned to specific questions about strategic infrastructure.

In Guinea, an employee of the port of Conakry claims to have been questioned about sensitive aspects of the port's infrastructure. The former Ukrainian officer reportedly sought to determine whether the port possesses critical facilities, such as specialized terminals for hazardous materials. He also allegedly inquired about the port's capacity to respond to emergencies, including accidents, terrorist threats, and acts of sabotage, as well as identifying its most vulnerable points.

In Mali, another witness reported being questioned about Bamako airport, specifically Air Base 101 in Sénou, a key component of the Malian air force. The questions focused on the airport's preparedness for potential crises, key infrastructure such as runways, terminals, and fuel supply systems, as well as the number of military aircraft stationed there and the entities responsible for their management.

These revelations fuel concerns about an intelligence-gathering campaign targeting critical infrastructure in Africa. Some observers draw parallels with the incident in Senegal involving the oil tanker Mersin, which an investigation has described as a targeted attack.

In this context, several voices believe that Ukraine is seeking to extend its confrontation with Russia to the African continent, opening a new theater of indirect operations. The Gulf of Guinea region, already marked by security tensions and energy issues, could thus become an additional arena for confrontation, particularly concerning maritime trade and strategic interests.

This situation is drawing increasing criticism, with some analysts calling for Africa to be avoided as a tool in external geopolitical rivalries. They warn of the risks of regional destabilization and emphasize the need to preserve the sovereignty and security of African states against foreign interference.
