Affaire des 18 supporters, l'annonce du ministre des Affaires étrangères : «Nous avons déjà commencé à nous engager avec la partie marocaine pour…»
In Morocco, 18 of our supporters had been detained since the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON - 2025) final. After their initial conviction, the Rabat Court of Appeal upheld the sentences on April 13th. Now, Senegalese diplomacy has taken action.
"Diplomacy has always acted discreetly. It is quite true that the room for maneuver of diplomacy was limited. As long as the legal proceedings were not completed, it was impossible for diplomacy to exert its full influence. Now that the legal proceedings are over, I think that we now have a free hand," the Foreign Minister stated.
On national television, Cheikh Dieng even gave an overview of the level of discussions: "We have already begun engaging with the Moroccan side to see the best way we can resolve this problem, which is an extremely painful one," the diplomat said.
For him, this affair remains painful not only for the supporters detained in Morocco, but also for the image it projects of the relationship "which has always been special between Morocco and Senegal." In his opinion, there have been many misunderstandings.
