Negotiations on a global treaty to combat plastic pollution, held in Geneva, ended in failure due to a lack of consensus. Despite this impasse, Africa maintained its position, advocating for a legally binding and equitable agreement that takes into account the continent's economic and social realities.

African states have emphasized the need for stable and accessible financing, an essential condition for supporting the transition to sustainable production and consumption systems. Their approach demonstrates a desire to take control of their environmental destiny, rather than submit to decisions imposed by other regions.

By positioning itself as a driving force of ambition, the continent seeks to influence the construction of a global treaty capable of protecting the planet and future generations. Africa sees this as an opportunity to demonstrate that environmental justice and development can go hand in hand.

This stance also highlights a new diplomatic dynamic where the continent is claiming an active and credible role in global environmental issues, consolidating its image as an essential partner in international negotiations.
