Macky Sall, candidat au poste de secrétaire général de l’ONU ? : « Nous n’en savons rien », assure la Gambie
According to the news website "Le Quotidien," former Senegalese President Macky Sall sent a letter in early February to his successor, Diomaye Faye, informing him of his intention to run for the position of UN Secretary-General. Through this initiative, Macky Sall is reportedly seeking the support of his country and President Diomaye Faye. The media outlet reports that the latter "has not yet deemed it necessary to respond to his letter."
"This is exclusively a matter of Senegalese politics, not Gambian politics."
In neighboring Gambia, authorities say they are unaware of Macky Sall's intentions. "We do not know if he is seeking the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations, as this is exclusively a matter of Senegalese politics and not Gambian politics," said Gambian Foreign Minister Serign Modou Njie on Tuesday during a press conference in Banjul.
No one is unaware of the close ties Macky Sall forged with Adama Barrow's Gambia during his presidency. This is why the Gambian press sought to ascertain whether the President and his government were aware of the Fatick native's plans.
