Mines, industrie et commerce : Vers une coopération renforcée entre la Mauritanie et le Sénégal
In the mining sector, Dakar and Nouakchott reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening sector governance, promoting responsible and sustainable resource exploitation, improving traceability, and ensuring better environmental protection, particularly in artisanal and semi-industrial gold mining. This was stated in a joint communiqué signed by the two countries at the end of a working session between the delegation of the Mauritanian Prime Minister and Ousmane Sonko. El Moctar Ould Djay is on a 48-hour visit to Senegal.
On the industrial level, discussions focused on the shared commitment to the local transformation of resources, the development of value chains, the strengthening of local content and the transfer of skills, with a view to creating jobs and added value.
The two countries also welcomed the signing of the trade cooperation agreement and agreed to expedite the establishment of the joint trade cooperation committee stipulated therein. The elimination of transshipment practices, effective November 2025, combined with the creation of a freight office and the deployment of a digital trade management platform, should contribute to smoother and more intensive bilateral trade.
Fishing, health and livestock farming are at the heart of the priorities
In the fisheries sector, both parties endorsed the renewal of the bilateral protocol for a period of twelve months and agreed to expand their cooperation to the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, aquaculture and sanitary control of fishery products.
Faced with the spread of Rift Valley fever, the delegations called for strengthened health cooperation, through increased pooling of response resources and a particular emphasis on prevention, awareness and information for the population.
Finally, the two countries agreed to launch a regional project for the integration and modernization of livestock sectors, focusing on cross-border transhumance, milk self-sufficiency, and improved livestock feed management. This project will be accompanied by the reactivation of existing monitoring and consultation mechanisms to ensure its effective and sustainable implementation.
