ONU : Macky Sall remercie Ousmane Sonko
During his debate with Pascal Boniface, Ousmane Sonko launched a scathing attack on Donald Trump, asserting that he is not a man of peace, in reference to the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the DEA (the US Drug Enforcement Administration) and the US-Israeli strikes against Iran. According to Le Quotidien, this outburst was welcomed by Macky Sall's entourage as a positive sign for his candidacy for the position of UN Secretary-General. "It's a good thing that his government [Sonko's] refused to support us. The Americans will have understood that he is not the candidate of his enemies," speculated one member of the former head of state's campaign.
However, those close to Macky Sall are cautious about the US President: "Donald Trump can express one opinion one day and a completely opposite one the next. This makes it difficult to predict in advance how he will vote in his country."
However, optimism is in the air. Just hours before Macky Sall's hearing before the members of the UN Security Council this Wednesday in New York, his campaign is going off without a hitch, according to Le Quotidien. "Received individually by all the representatives of the Security Council member states, Macky Sall emerged from these meetings reinvigorated in his approach," reports the newspaper, part of the Avenir Communication group, citing sources close to the Senegalese leader. "The discussions with each representative were very cordial."
Better for the former head of state, according to the same source, "none of the [representatives of the] countries [members of the Security Council] seemed to want to highlight what the Senegalese opposed to the candidacy of their compatriot want to call the 'bloody record of his reign'."
