Pout (Thiès) : Ousmane Sonko et son homologue mauritanien s'imprégnent des capacités de production et des activités de l'usine Carrefour Médical Industries
It was at 8:48 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, that Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and his Mauritanian counterpart, El Moctar Ould Djay, arrived at the industrial site of the Carrefour Médical Industries factory in Pout (department of Thiès), specializing in the production of consumables for dialysis, for a visit to familiarize themselves with the production capacities and activities of this strategic unit for the health sector, which ended at 10:34 a.m.
The two statesmen reviewed the entire production process of dialysis consumables from the first dialysis concentrate unit in Senegal and the sub-region, with a production capacity of 5000 liters every two hours, totaling 10 million liters per year.
They must have realized that the company's presence improves product availability, especially since in Senegal, this water mixed with chemicals was purchased from Europe and Asia. Furthermore, Carrefour Médical Industries contributes to lowering dialysis costs.
A dialysis consumables production unit investing in health and pharmaceutical sovereignty. An opportunity to revisit the advantages of local production for better patient care (for kidney failure): promotion of pharmaceutical sovereignty, job creation, skills transfer, product availability, and reduced cost of dialysis kits.
Thus, Senegal has taken a major step towards its healthcare sovereignty with the Carrefour Médical Industrie factory, specializing in the local production of all dialysis-related consumables. This strategically important and operational infrastructure marks a decisive turning point: for the first time, Senegal is producing all the consumables necessary for the care of dialysis patients on its own soil, thereby reducing dependence on imports and securing the national medical supply chain.
This factory will create skilled jobs, enhance local expertise, and potentially reduce treatment costs for thousands of patients suffering from kidney failure. Beyond the industrial infrastructure, it represents the realization of a vision: that of a Senegal that produces its own goods; a Senegal that provides healthcare using its own resources; and a Senegal that places health at the heart of its economic and industrial development.
The establishment of this factory in Pout also confirms the strategic role of local communities in the new industrial dynamic initiated by the authorities. With Carrefour Médical Industrie, Senegal is sending a strong message: health sovereignty is no longer a slogan, but a reality under construction.
