Sénégal-Royaume-Uni : L’Ambassade célèbre le « King’s Birthday Party » sous le signe des connexions culturelles
The British Embassy in Dakar organised the annual “King’s Birthday Party (KBP)”, marking the birthday of His Majesty King Charles III. This key event on Dakar’s diplomatic calendar was held on Thursday 27 November under the theme: “Cultural Connections: An Evening of Friendship and Heritage”.
The initiative aimed to highlight the creativity, heritage and richness of cultural exchanges between the UK and Senegal, also underscoring the depth of the human ties that unite the two countries, including personal stories from the diaspora.
The KBP brought together representatives from the Senegalese government, the diplomatic corps, the private sector, the cultural world, civil society and the diaspora.
The British Ambassador to Dakar, Ms. Carine Robarts, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “The United Kingdom and Senegal enjoy a partnership based on trust, friendship, and mutual respect. The KBP is an opportunity to celebrate these ties, which are built every day through culture, youth, innovation, economic exchange, and the values we share.”
The evening was punctuated by performances and an exhibition highlighting intercultural dialogue.
The legendary Senegalese artist Cheikh Lo gave a performance. His music embodies openness, cultural exchange, and intercultural dialogue. It's worth noting that his latest album, "Maame," like all his previous ones, was produced in the UK with World Circuit Records.
An exhibition showcased the work of Senegalese visual artist Ibrahim Cissé, a graduate of the Royal College of Art in London. His work explores identity, memory, and the convergence of heritages.
DJs provided a back-to-back set, skillfully blending British sounds with Senegalese influences.
