Sommet Dakar–Nouakchott : Ousmane Sonko et El Moctar Ould Djay accélèrent sur le gaz GTA et le pont de Rosso
The Senegalese and Mauritanian authorities reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating the implementation of major structural projects that form the basis of their strategic partnership.
At a press conference this Thursday, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and his counterpart El Moctar Ould Djay reviewed priority issues during the Mauritanian Prime Minister's 48-hour working visit to Senegal.
Both sides welcomed the major progress made, particularly on the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas project, a true symbol of energy and industrial cooperation between the two nations.
The two heads of government welcomed the joint and historic visit of the heads of state to the gas platform in May 2025, marking the effective start of production and export of liquefied natural gas.
Beyond the extraction itself, they agreed to take all necessary steps to finalize the related hydroelectric developments. Particular emphasis was placed on implementing the local content protocol to ensure that this operation generates sustainable economic benefits for local communities.
Discussions also focused on the Rosso Bridge, a strategic infrastructure project designed to facilitate the free movement of people and goods. This project is seen as a key driver for strengthening trade and consolidating regional integration between North and West Africa.
The two governments have issued a strong appeal to remove the remaining technical and administrative obstacles. The goal is to ensure the project is completed on schedule, thus ending the challenges of crossing the Senegal River.
