Visite controversée en Guinée-Bissau : les précisions du chef de la Diplomatie Cheikh Niang
The Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, accompanied by the Minister of the Armed Forces and the Senegalese Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, recently visited Guinea-Bissau. This trip, in the current context of the military takeover, has sparked controversy. Some perceive it as support for the junta. In an interview published this Monday in L'Observateur, the Foreign Minister sought to refute this, arguing that the visit "constitutes neither recognition nor endorsement of the coup."
Cheikh Niang asserts that the initiative undertaken, "on the express instruction of the Head of State, was exclusively a humanitarian good offices approach."
“His sole objective was the release of Mr. Domingos Simões Pereira, leader of PAIGE, and his detained companions, as well as the safe departure of Mr. Fernando Dias da Costa, presidential candidate, and his supporters who had taken refuge in the Nigerian embassy,” the minister explained. “This mission did not replace the role assigned to ECOWAS regarding the content and conduct of the transition,” he emphasized.
Continuing, Cheikh Niang indicated that "Senegal felt it was its duty to act upstream in order to avoid any escalation likely to compromise the stability of the country and, by extension, that of the sub-region. It was a matter of preventing a deterioration of the humanitarian situation, which could lead to a blockage of the upcoming transition."
While he "welcomes the recent release of some political prisoners," the Minister of African Integration advocates for the release of "major political figures such as Domingos Pereira and Fernando Dias da Costa." "This would be a good signal," he believes, while asserting that "any lasting solution must be based on strict respect for the popular will, and therefore on democratic principles and constitutional legality."

Domingos du PAIGC, allié du MFDC, ne peut pas être libéré pour continuer à déstabiliser le sud. Le renversement de l'ordre républicain à Bissau, fragilisé par une fragmentation des armées par le prisme communautaire, est salutaire pour le Sénégal.
Ceux qui ont été libérés n'ont aucune influence néfaste sur la sécurité nationale bissau-guinéenne.
Parfois, il est juste bon d'observer et d'anticiper sur les débordements au-dela de la frontière avec le Sénégal.
Ziguinchor était jusqu'ici une base de repli des insurgés bissau-guinéens. La preuve, ils sont tous là-bas à se saouler la gueule. Même le singe Guy Marius Sagna y est allé à sa façon pour défendre ses parents du PAIGC qui sont tous des alliés du MFDC. Même Mbaye rapport ne s'est pas gêné de le faire devant l’Assemblée nationale
