Grand Prix Senico 2026 : Mouhamadoul Bachir Thiam sacré champion national du récital du Coran
The 9th edition of the Senico Grand Prix for recital of the Holy Quran delivered its verdict this Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Grand National Theatre of Dakar, after a week of competition marked by strong mobilization.
At the national level, the Senegalese championship title was won by Mouhamadoul Bachir Thiam, from Dakar. He takes home a prize of 30 million CFA francs, an additional bonus of 3 million offered by the President of the National Assembly, El Malick Ndiaye, who attended the event, as well as a ticket to Mecca.
Second place went to Cheikhouna Mbaye from Touba (20 million CFA francs and a ticket to Mecca), while young Abdoul Akhat Wagnane, aged only 9 and from Diourbel, completed the podium with a prize of 15 million CFA francs.
Internationally, for its second edition, which brought together 15 countries, first place was won by Tunisian Raoudji Mouhamed Mouhat (20 million CFA francs). Mauritanian Sidy Cheikh Barahim came in second (10 million), followed by Senegalese Khadim Séye in third (5 million). Candidates ranked from 4th to 15th each received a participation bonus of 500,000 CFA francs.
Held under the patronage of Serigne Abdoul Aziz Sy Dabakh, the ceremony took place in the presence of several authorities, including the Delegate General for Religious Affairs, Djim Dramé. Officials praised the initiative led by the Director General of Senico, El Hadj Abdoulaye Dia, encouraging its continuation and expansion.
This edition confirms the competition's established position as one of the major religious and cultural events in Senegal.
