Budget 2026 : le Sénégal place l’emploi et le bien-être des citoyens au cœur de sa relance

At the Council of Ministers on October 22, 2025, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye presented the main guidelines of the 2026 budget, emphasizing the need for an economic recovery capable of meeting strong social expectations. In a context marked by pressures on purchasing power and growing needs for infrastructure and public services, the Head of State emphasized the importance of a budget that reconciles financial rigor and stimulating growth. He reiterated that the budgetary exercise must be an instrument of structural transformation, supporting job-creating sectors and strengthening the economy's resilience to external and internal shocks.

The President placed productive investment and job creation at the center of government priorities, emphasizing the central role of the private sector as an engine of growth. He requested a detailed assessment of the Economic and Social Recovery Plan and the National Development Strategy 2025-2029, in order to measure the real impact of the reforms carried out on the labor market and national productivity. This analysis should guide the allocation of resources and direct the selection of structuring projects, ranging from infrastructure to SME support initiatives, including the financing of targeted social programs for vulnerable populations.

The President also emphasized the need to stabilize prices and protect household purchasing power, stressing that social justice remains a major issue in the 2026 budget. Public policies must be geared toward improving living conditions, reducing territorial inequalities, and ensuring equitable access to essential services such as education, health, and energy. In this context, the government intends to strengthen coordination between ministries, optimize spending efficiency, and mobilize endogenous and external resources in a transparent manner. The stated objective is to transform the budget into a concrete lever for economic development, social cohesion, and national sovereignty, while strengthening the trust of citizens and international partners.
