Restructuration de la dette : Le ministre des Finances ne veut plus en entendre parler
Senegal's public debt stands at 130% of GDP, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The Bretton Woods institution is proposing a debt restructuring to the Senegalese government. However, the Minister of Finance refuses to consider this option. He made this clear to MP Anta Babacar Ngom, who questioned him on the matter.
“Madame Diack, Anta Babacar Ngom, I ask you one thing: please stop using the term ‘restructuring.’ Because if Senegal were in a situation where we had to talk about debt restructuring, I wouldn’t mince words. I would say, ‘Let’s move towards restructuring.’ But we are not in that situation. And I want to be clear, concise, and precise,” said the Minister of Finance.
Cheikh Diba also no longer wants to hear that Senegal is facing a liquidity crisis. For him, this is far from the truth. "It's because we don't have a liquidity crisis that we're here, discussing this. A liquidity crisis is when you run out of money. Someone gave the examples of Ghana, Zambia, etc. It's true, those countries were in a difficult situation; they faced challenges," the minister explained.
