As reported yesterday, Wednesday by Seneweb, Andy Inglis, the head of Kosmos Energy, was received in the United States by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The CEO of the company operating the Senegalese-Mauritanian gas field of Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA), revealed the content of their discussions.
"We discussed our activities in the country, the progress made on the GTA project, and our ambitions for this project in terms of expansion," said the CEO of the Texan company. At the heart of their discussions were also issues related to the country's natural gas supply, an issue that is close to the heart of the Senegalese authorities.
"We mainly discussed the benefits that Senegal can gain from the project, the opportunities for domestic gas production, for example, and the security that this would bring to the Senegalese market's gas supply, resulting in lower electricity prices," Mr. Inglis said at the end of the hearing, speaking to RTS.
Indeed, the issue of supplying the local market with natural gas is a central priority for the new regime. Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko was outraged by the fact that the country imports gas while LNG is produced right here in Senegal.
"By 2026, we don't want to go looking for nine shipments of gas from very far away to bring them to Senegal, when there is gas produced here. We want to source it right here and we will take the necessary steps to do so," Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko declared last August.

Question bis ?
