Journée internationale de la Douane : La vigilance et l'engagement de l’Administration des douanes au service des populations
The Minister of Finance and Budget, Cheikh Diba, presided over the International Customs Day, celebrated worldwide. The event was held at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Customs.
Placed under the theme "A customs service that protects its population through vigilance and commitment", this edition highlighted the strategic role of customs in securing the territory, combating illicit trafficking and facilitating trade.
The minister stressed the relevance of this theme, believing that it faithfully reflects the daily missions of customs officers, at the heart of the protection of the national economy and citizens.
Surrounded by members of the management committee, representatives of the defense and security forces (FDS), and institutional partners, the Director General of Customs, Babacar Mbaye, commended the unwavering commitment and professionalism of his teams. The Minister, for his part, congratulated the Customs Administration on the impressive results achieved in 2025, praising the crucial contribution of Customs to the mobilization of public resources and the country's economic stability.
The ceremony also included the inauguration and dedication of new facilities, honoring former officials who have left their mark on the history of Senegalese customs. A conference room was named after Moukhamadou Makhtar Cissé, former Director General of Customs. A new annex of the headquarters now bears the name of Mamadou Moustapha Tall, also a former Director General. Finally, the operational command center was dedicated to the memory of the late Customs Colonel Mbaye Ndao, an emblematic figure of the service.
The Senegalese Customs Administration reaffirms through this day its commitment to strengthening the vigilance, modernization and performance of its units in the service of protecting the population and national economic development.
