Le billet de 10 000, cet imposteur
Ah, the 10,000 CFA franc note, that great king who comes out of the ATM, all fresh, all spiffy, like a prince on his white horse ready to conquer the market. We take it with respect, we unfold it gently, we tell ourselves that it will finally reign over spending, that it is the key that opens all doors. But very quickly, this king shows his true face, that of an imposter, a magician who makes wealth disappear at the frantic pace of the market.
Barely placed on the vendor's table, the bill begins its dance. It slips between the skyrocketing milk bags, disappears into the basket of fresh fish, and evaporates with the few red tomatoes essential to every meal. Like a warm breath over the lagoon, it flies away, leaving behind a void where wealth should have been.
This note isn't money, it's a mirage. The more it circulates, the smaller it becomes, until it becomes a ghost. It's proudly brandished, counted, torn into small pieces to pay to the nearest franc, but it continues to melt, to wither, like a fabric worn by the sun and time. This king is without a kingdom, sovereign of a fragile empire where inflation and the cost of living rob him of his power.
It's like that tired baobab tree, which still has a few leaves but bends under the weight of the years and the storms. We would like to love it, to protect it, but it crumbles with every expense, every purchase, every payment. It governs nothing, except the illusion of a purchasing power that is slipping away.
And yet, every morning it returns, faithful to its post, from the ATMs, a cruel reminder that wealth is fleeting, that purchasing power is a mirage that makes an entire people chase it. This 10,000 CFA franc note is the invisible king, the ghost of savings, the one that makes our lives dance between hope and disappointment.
So, faced with this impostor, what remains? Belt tightening, apothecary calculations, silent sacrifices, and hopes hung like garlands. The 10,000 euro note, the fallen king, continues its game, but it is time to dream of a true sovereign, capable of holding the throne and restoring dignity to those who hold it in their hands.
