Lfi - 2026 : Le Budget de Sonko hausse, celui d’El Malick en baisse, un pic pour Diomaye
For the past few hours, the increase in the President's budget has been the subject of debate. Indeed, from 78 billion CFA francs in the initial 2025 Finance Bill, it will rise to 204 billion CFA francs in Payment Credit (PC) and 243 billion in Commitment Authorization (CA) in the 2026 Initial Finance Bill.
"It's true, there's an increase from 78 billion to 204 billion. But very recently there was a decree on the distribution of state services, and today many services are attached to the residence of the Republic. And these services have always had programs and allocated funds. These are the funds that were attached to the Presidency of the Republic," said Dr. Ismaïla Diallo, Vice-President of the National Assembly, to explain the increase.
Sonko's Prime Minister receives 5 billion increase
The Presidency isn't the only executive branch institution experiencing a budget increase. Ousmane Sonko's Prime Minister's office will also see its budget increase. It will rise from 25 billion CFA francs in the 2025 Finance Bill to 30.9 billion CFA francs in the 2026 Finance Bill. This increase of 5.9 billion CFA francs could be explained by several new creations at the Prime Minister's office.
For example, the office of the Secretary of State to the Prime Minister, responsible for relations with institutions, government spokesperson, and related departments have been housed in the Prime Minister's office. Also, several newly created structures, such as the Interministerial Committee for Monitoring the Senegal 2050 Agenda, the National Air Transport Council, and the National Digital Council, have been placed under the supervision of the Prime Minister.
A slight drop for the National Assembly
Unlike the presidency and the prime minister's office, the National Assembly's budget will be slightly reduced in 2026. Indeed, from 22.4 billion CFA francs in 2025, its budget is expected to reach 22.3 billion CFA francs in 2026. The budget of the Court of Auditors is expected to fall from 14.5 billion CFA francs to 13.4 billion CFA francs in 2026. That of the Constitutional Council is also expected to fall from 1.4 billion in 2025 to 1.3 billion CFA francs in 2026.
