Microfinance : Cheikh Diba explique la baisse du budget et rassure

The budget of the Ministry of Microfinance, Social and Solidarity Economy is indeed decreasing compared to the 2025 financial year. However, according to the Minister of Finance and Budget, this decrease does not reflect any intention to reduce spending.

This is mainly due to the closure of a first project this year and the change of status of a second, now transferred to the Islamic Microfinance Guarantee Fund.

“The budget is decreasing for these technical reasons, but we are already working on three new projects financed by external resources,” he assured. One of these projects is valued at 20 billion CFA francs.

The minister also stressed the need to rethink economic perceptions: "There is no distance between micro and macroeconomics. The real economy, the one of the household basket, is the social and solidarity economy," he specifies.

The minister noted that 1.532 trillion CFA francs are allocated annually to paying the salaries of civil servants, estimated at fewer than 250,000 people. "The social and solidarity economy represents the rest of the Senegalese population. We must therefore find more resources to support this sector," he concluded.
